European Youth Voice

Hey Ho and viva los rockos! My name is Phil and I play the guitar in the German Band: Die netten Jungs von Nebenan (the nice guys from next door). We are from Ratingen rock city and exist since 2006. I think our style is a mix of punk rock and ska. One trumpet, two guitars, bass, drums and EY, OH,  lets GO.

But to be honest, why should you go on and read this article? I mean there are millions of bands all around the globe and a lot of them are really good. Check out our website, maybe you like us or not.

But what I want to tell you is a little story, the reason why we have such a crazy name. As you maybe guess, every good story is about love. When I was 17 years old, I was totally in love with that one girl. I felt like that stereotype looser guy in one of these American high school movies. Every time she walked by, my brain shut down and the world around me was in slow motion. I can’t remember how I was able to but some how I asked her for a date. And guess what, she said yes. I was nervous like hell but it was a nice evening that we spent in a bar together. We had very good conversations and shared the same attitudes about a lot of issues. I really thought that she liked me and she did. But what she was starting to define about me was the end of that date but the beginning of something great. She told me that she would not be my girlfriend because I am too Nice.

I was too friendly, girls like assholes! Are you kidding?

The captain of the football team or what? So there I was, just

the nice guy. One week later I went to that same bar, kind of

depressed and absorbed in thought. How can someone be

too nice? I had a look around and saw another lonely boy

sitting at a table, staring at his beer. I decided to talk to him

and believe me or not, he just had the same situation with a

girl, two weeks before.

Suddenly, both of us were able to laugh

about it. We ordered one beer after another had a lot of fun

and created crazy theories, why girls like assholes. The bar

closed but in our minds, the night was young. We walked

around the dark city, scouting for some place for two young

strangers, when a magical moment happened.

We just found

out that not only our experiences about that nice guy

situations was the same, it was the same girl!!!

We looked to each other and everything was crystal

clear. ,,You know what, it is good to be a nice guy. I don’t want

to be an asshole and treat women like shit. We have to fight

for all the nice guys and show the world that we are the better

ones.
