Cuban miracle

Have you ever heard about BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB? If you haven`t, just keep reading and if you had, keep reading too. Buena Vista Social Club was the music club in Havana, Cuba. The club was most famous during the 1940s. The Cuban musicians have been meeting and performing their music here.

After the Cuban Revolution of 1959, the club was closed. The Europe didn`t know the Cuban music until 1990s, when Cuban musician Juan de Marcos González and American guitarist Ry Cooder had an idea. They brought ex-clubby musicians together and made a recording. The group was named Buena Vista Social Club according the club.

The first studio album became an international succes and in 1998, German director Wim Wenders made a document about the group – captured their performance on film and made interviews with the musicians. This movie is called Buena Vista Social Club too.

Nowadays, Cuban musicians are performing all over the world and collecting achievements. 15.2. 2011 they had a performance in Bratislava, Slovakia. I was there. You can imagine Cuba Libre in our hand and Cuban music together, and you`re dancing. It was amazing. There appeared Cuban stars like Omara Portuondo, Julio Alberto Fernandez, Teresa Garcia Caturla and others.

Buena Vista performs a wonderful latin-jazz music, they have a lot of songs, but the most famous is song called Guantanamera, which one is certainly known for everybody.
